My Favorite Actresses (2017 Edition)

You ready for a list that’s about 1/4 of the length of My Favorite Actors? Last year I wrote this post, My Favorite Actresses, and while it’s still got a few things right, there’s a lot of things that have changed.

I am extremely picky when it comes to what actresses I like. I hold them up to an almost impossible standard, so if they’ve made this list, believe me- I’m 100% convinced that they’re amazing. Let me introduce you to…

Gal Gadot

MY QUEEEEEEEEN. Gal Gadot is the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen- literally, in my opinion, she’s the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. There are lots of reasons to love her- I love that she’s tall, because I am too and she embraces it like the Themysciran warrior she is. She’s graceful, too- and her accent is  a m a z i n g. Notable Roles: Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)

Jennifer Lawrence

I was questioning whether or not J. Law would make this list or not, because a lot of the time I like an actor because of their offscreen persona just as much as because of their acting abilities. I don’t know a lot about Jennifer offscreen, but that doesn’t change the fact that on screen, she absolutely kills it. As far as her acting goes, she’s definitely the person who inspires me most. She’s incredible. Notable Roles: Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games), Joy (Joy).

Kaya Scodelario

I just love Kaya. My love for her is kind of the opposite of Jennifer Lawrence- whereas with Jennifer, it’s her acting that really seals the deal, Kaya’s personality is what puts her on this list. First of all- she’s British. Also, she’s really spunky. There are times with her acting where I find her performance lacking, but she’s still starting her career, so I have grace for that. Notable Roles: Teresa (The Maze Runner), Carina (Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales)*

*I haven’t actually seen Pirates 5. Whatevs.

Jena Malone

Jena’s name would never pop up in my head if someone asked me who my favorite actresses were, but the more I think about it the more I realize I really love her acting. Where’s my Jena Malone Appreciation, people? She’s fabulous. She plays a variety of roles extremely well, she’s in a lot of my favorite movies, and she’s a total boss. Notable Roles: Johanna Mason (The Hunger Games), Lydia (Pride & Prejudice), Jenet Klyburn (Batman V. Superman [Extended Edition])

Zoe Saldana

Zoe is officially the only actress from last year’s list that made it a second time. She’s a really strong actress and can hold her own against powerful leads (even to the point of stealing the spotlight sometimes. Go you, queen.) There are small cadences to her acting that make it unique every time. Notable Roles: Uhura (Star Trek), Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy)

Runner-ups: Emma Stone, Emily Blunt, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Follows, Kate Winslet, Dena Kaplan

This list may be short, but it’s packed with power. This is the Queen Team. These are the performances that inspire my own acting. And they’re fabulous.

  1. There are so great actresses on this list! I have loved Jena Malone since Step Mom! She is so talented!

Emma Stone would definitely make my list. I adore her!

  2. I love Jena Malone!!! Though strangely enough I didn’t actually know her name until reading this post. She is spectacular as Johanna Mason. That is really the only role I have seen her in, but she does it so well that she has won my respect.
