And the LORD said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” Luke 17:6
I think it’s easy to start imagining all the BIG things we could do with BIG faith. What if I had faith the size of a grapefruit? Or a bus? Just think of the HUGE thinks I could do!
But I don’t think Jesus meant that. At church this Sunday, the speaker explained the verse like this: Jesus wasn’t saying “With a small amount of faith, you can move a mulberry tree. With a BIG amount, you can do much more.”
What he was saying was that you don’t need big amounts of faith. You need the faith you received when you were saved. Even if you have just a teeny tiny bit of faith, you could tell a tree to move, and it would.
I don’t think we need to start telling trees to jump into the ocean just to test our faith. We need to believe. It’s not about how HUGE our faith is- it’s about how huge our God is.
And I believe He’s pretty big.
